Data
OBIS (Ocean Biodiversity Information System) data are an open-access, internet-based resource available globally to everyone.
MBRIS has been managing data collected over decades from Korean waters.
OBIS Korea relies on MBRIS to share data with OBIS.
OBIS Korea follows the steps below to register data with OBIS.
Below are the key links for OBIS data:
Regist Data Step
Data Extraction
  • - Extract data from MBRIS that is suitable for OBIS classification.
  • - Verify key elements of the extracted data, such as species information from the providing institution, spatial information, and collection date.
  • - Conduct necessary discussions for registering the extracted data.
Quality Check of Extracted Data
  • - Perform pre-validation of spatial information through verification of coastline positions.
  • - Verify species names according to WoRMS (World Register of Marine Species).
  • - Conduct Darwin Core validation.
  • - Additional quality checks may be performed as needed.
Data Registration
  • - The validated data is registered with OBIS through IPT.
  • - During the IPT registration process, data matching with OBIS fields and metadata input are performed.
  • - The registered data undergoes an internal verification process by OBIS before being published on OBIS.
